MY TOP TEN (plus)

Okay...my blog is suddenly on a music kick! I think it's because I've spent so much time lately posting comments on other's sites, by the time I get to mine I have already said everything I desire to say on the subject of politics. So.. I offer you my all time top ten albums....what are yours?

10. Bob Seger - NIGHT MOVES
9. Gordon Lightfoot - DON QUIXOTE
8. The Beatles - SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
7. Nanci GriffIth - ONE FAIR SUMMER EVENING
6. Stevie Wonder - MUSIC IN THE KEY OF LIFE
5. Bob Dylan - BLONDE ON BLONDE
4. R.E.M. - OUT OF TIME
3. Tom Waits - NIGHTHAWKS AT THE DINER
2. The Beatles - THE BEATLES (commonly known as the white album)

and........drum roll please.....

# 1. Harry Chapin - GREATEST STORIES LIVE

HONORABLE MENTION:

THE LAST WALTZ (soundtrack)
Jimmy Buffet - COCONUT TELEGRAPH
Van Morrison - MOONDANCE

Comments:
Hm. That's a toughie. I can pick 10 favorite artists easily, but albums? The order of the following really depends on my mood:

-Dark Side of the Mood, Pink Floyd
-OK Computer, Radiohead
-Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd
-Negotiations & Love Songs, Paul Simon
-Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Primus
-O Brother Where Art Thou? Soundtrack
-Sgt. Pepper, Beatles
-Under the Pink, Tori Amos
-Psalm 69, Ministry
-Vespertine, Bjork

(and generally any Soundtrack from a Quentin Tarantino movie - his choice of music really becomes a character in the film)...

Really good choices, I especially like the Tori Amos and Bjork albums. As for soundtracks, I love the ones from Nora Ephram movies, especially "Sleepless In Seattle" There is nothing better than Jimmy Durante doing "As Time Goes By"!

I always love these top ten lists! Mine will change often, but here are the ten I would currently take to that proverbial desert island (you know, the one with electricity and a CD player?). In no particular order:

Bob Seger -- Live Bullet (or Mongrel, depending on which day you ask me)
RENT -- original Broadway cast
Jethro Tull -- Aqualung
Tom Waits -- my own mix (that is a cop-out, but I just can't pick a favorite album, or even a favorite era)
Kate Bush -- The Dreaming
Kid Rock -- Devil Without a Cause
Maroon 5 -- Songs About Jane
Candye Kane -- Diva La Grande
Duke Robillard -- Duke Robillard Plays Jazz: The Rounder Years (best cuts from "Swing" and "After Hours Swing Sessions")
Scott Morgan Band -- Rock Action!

I'm sure in five minutes, I'll think "Man, how could I have left ________ off the list?"

wow....Duke Robillard, there's a name I haven't heard in years! I guess I'm gonna take a little trip over to artist direct and see what available!

If you haven't heard Duke's album "After Hours Swing Session", you absolutely must check it out, especially his Duke-a-licious, smokin' hot rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown." *sigh* The man has such an elegant touch on the gee-tar. Oh, and "Jim Jam" off the album "Swing" is also mindblowing, as Duke trades riffs with his guitar prof from Berkely (sp?).

Okay, now I can't shut my virtual yap about this.

How could I have left James Brown's Greatest Hits off my list?
Or at least a Zappa mix?
But what to ditch in favor of it. . .but can't be on the island without funk.

yeah, I'm tryin to figure out how I could fit Willie Nelson and Jackson Browne onto the list. As for funk, I prefer George Clinton (momma, what a Funkadelic?) to James.

Here are some of my favorites. They aren't in any particular order.

The Beatles - Abbey Road
Soundgarden - Superunknown
REM - Automatic for the People
U2 - Achtung, Baby
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Pearl Jam - Ten

I'm sure there are more, but those are the first that come to my mind.

I swear, this is the last I'll say about this. . .but you knew I'd do this, right?

How could I have possibly left the Black Crowes' "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" off the list?

That's it -- I simply must have more than ten CDs on my island.

yeah, I'm trying to figure out how I could have left out Queen's A NIGHT AT THE OPERA. But if I take that, I also have to take A DAY AT THE RACES! and really ought to have some Badfinger along too. Oh, what to do, what to DO?
