HEY! THE GOVERNMENT IS FINALLY GETTING IT!
Now cooking at THE CHURCH POTLUCK: Mom's Pudding Cake
Hooray! the government is finally getting it! They announced today that instead of concentrating on rapid economic growth, they are going to concentrate on closing the gap between the wealthy and the poor. They are dedicated to lifting people out of poverty! Oh... wait a minute... that's the CHINESE government! WTF? How come these relative newcomers to capitalism can get it, and our government doesn't. Meanwhile, the percentage of Americans living below the poverty line has risen 7% since the Republicans took power. !8% of Americans live in poverty. When Reagan was elected, 11% of Americans lived below the poverty line. Worse, over one in 5 children under the age of 15 in this country lives in poverty! Meanwhile, the wealthiest 1% of the population now controls 40% of it's assets. Like I said... WHAT THE FUCK?
Meanwhile, the economic news is not good. Housing sales down. Stock market down. Gold prices up sharply. The latter should be of particular concern. People generally purchase gold for one or two reasons. First, as a hedge against inflation. Second, if they think the value of the dollar is going to fall significantly! Either way, or both, this is not at all a good sign for the economy!
***************************************************************************************
THE DUBYA/DOBSON SHOW
Geo and Jim need to get together and get their stories straight! About the same time Dobson was on the air denying that he had discussed Harriet Miers with anyone in the administration, Dubya was saying yes, he had spoken with conservative Christian leaders, including Dobson, about Miers. He said he told them of how well he knew Miers, and of her deep Christian faith. He said it was all just part of the process of people getting to know Miers. The remarks brought a new firestorm of criticism from both the left and the right. Both sides asking the same questions. What does Mier's faith have to do with her judicial temperament and skill? What does it have to do with her ability as a judge? And why do religious leaders get special considerations the rest of us, including Congress, don't?
Remember a few months ago, I wrote an article about the power of Dobson, and his fellow domnionists? A number of people accused me of greatly exaggerating Dobson's power. Anybody think I'm exaggerating now? Which leads us to the:
JOKE OF THE DAY!
Question: What is long and dangles between James Dobson's legs?
Answer: George Bush's necktie!

Great Dobson joke. I think the majority of America has had no idea how powerful this man (and Rove) are. They might be getting some idea now. We've been barking up their tree for the better part of the last year.
Thankfully, it also appears the prosecutor has some appreciation for their power ... and deception.

"What is long and dangles between James Dobson's legs? George Bush's necktie!" Thanks for a truly horrific visual, on many levels. ;-)
I'm just getting so tired of all this bullshit... how many fuck ups is it going to take for people to wake up? What part of the twilight zone am I in where I agree with fucking Ann Coulter????
They are dedicated to lifting people out of poverty! Oh... wait a minute... that's the CHINESE government!
I would take anything the Chinese gov't claims with a grain of salt. Remember, they still to this day use skin of executed criminals in beauty products (this sound like another scary gov't from the 40s anyone?) and claim they're doing something about their environment (yeah, right).
They're still to this day using organs of people they execute, both criminals and political dissenters. The Chinese gov't right now is the 2nd most evil gov't in the world, and the only country that has nukes pointed at us.

Papa Bear asked:What does her faith have to do with being a judge?
Well, to people like me, who trust that God is REALLY the one appointing leaders, it makes a lot of sense. Of course to agnostics, atheists or whatever--it doesn't make any sense.
Bush is obviously surrounding himself with people who are "like minded".
*enter the cruel jokes from the left*
BTW--I posted some new pics.

The economy is reported to be thriving?
Everything is for sale and no one is buying.
I think someone in the Government is lying.
Though me and all my friends are eagerly trying.
We can't afford health insurance so we are dying.

If, as Sadie Lou says, God is responsible for appointing leaders, then what the hell did we do to deserve George W. Bush?
Seriously, Sadie Lou, you really believe God appoints our leaders?
What do you think is happening when we vote?
You can't be serious.

ZS - what you say may be true, but no country has managed their economy better in the last decade and a half than China. And it is in the governments best interest to do so. Growing resentment of the rich, and serious polution related health problems have caused the occasional massive street protests.
Bringing more balance to the economic fortunes of it's people just makes good sense from a survival standpoint for the ruling class.
WC - somehow my jokes always seem to come back to me, only in slightly different form. Over the years, this joke has been told in many forms. I originally heard it in Red Lake ONT as Reagan/Mulruney. Since then I have had it mailed to me as Clinton/Blair, Cheney/Bush, Bush/Blair, now Dobson/Bush.
Shortly before his death, Milton Berle was quoted as saying, "good jokes never get old, they just get recycled!"
it appears this one may be recycled in perpetuity.

this morning npr and nbc were reporting bush's 39% approval rating. i can't believe that 39% of the country approves of the the job he's doing. i won't be happy until that number is ZERO!

I wouldn't say it if I didn't REALLY believe it. :)
If I may quote some scripture for your enlightenment:
Romans 13:1-
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for their is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
...Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and He will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good."
Essentially, I submit to those who govern because God is faithful. Even if I do not like the governing authorities, I trust that the Lord has him or her in that position for a reason.
Isabella--
If you were a Christian, you could easily submit to Bush with the faith that the Lord has set him in that position to do you good and if you didn't believe that Bush was doing his duty in that department, Bush would be in a heap of trouble with the Lord, since he is serving the Lord whether he acknowledges that or not. It would be the same for me if Kerry had been elected. I would pray for him that he would do God's will. That might even include things that I don't like but are the Lord's will because of the desired outcome.
Perhaps God put Bush into leadership to show Americans how ignorant or blind we are to poverty in our own country. Would you say that through Bush and his administration--we are aware of this now? In a bigger way than ever before?
Just askin'.

Sadie, do you believe God put Hitler in a position of power for a reason? What about Stalin? Pol Pot? Mao Tse Tung? Caligula?
Or do you believe God places people in power only in the USofA?
Also, do you know what Article VI of the Constitution states?
Article VI
All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

Of course I believe those wicked men came into power for a reason. I believe sin led them to their actions but God allowed it to happen. Who the heck knows what lessons their example taught the world. How many lives were spared because we were a witness to the horror that was experienced at the hands of a wicked ruler. We also know that many of those men will get their just desserts.
I'm not an idiot. God is not isolated to the USA, that's a stupid question. The Bible wasn't written for Americans. The quote from Romans was obviould addressing Jews and gentiles so why would I believe it only applies to a select nation, now?
Also, the Bible is chalk-full of wretched rulers. Remember Caesar? Nero?
As to your posting of the Consitution: Did Bush give a religious test I'm not aware of?

*I meant to say "obviously" so that's a typo and I meant to say "The Bible wasn't written for Americans, ONLY."
Sadie, in essence, yes he did. By assuring Dobson and the other dominionist leaders that she was an acceptable candidate because of her fundamentalism, yes he did. He didn't tell Dobson she was acceptable becasue whe was a brilliant jurist. He essentially told Dobson not to worry, she would vote according to Christian principles, not the law. And as we are as a nation supposed to be ruled by law, not man, all by itself it is a serious indictment of her qualification to sit on any court, let alone the Supreme court.
It's so maddening to me the way people point out these things as if their party wouldn't do the exact same thing. This is politics, right? Am I missing something here or do people usually lump themselves into groups according to their affiliation. Are you attempting to say that by Bush leaning towards picking people that work with his agenda, he doing the opposite of what, say Kerry, would do if he were in office? Would Kerry pick an evangelical Christian as a Supreme Court Judge? Absolutely not.
Would Kerry pass over someone that was Pro Life? Come on. This thing always works both ways...

Sadie Lou,
You have absolutely no way of knowing what Kerry would do.
Just because Bush acts in a religiously partisan way doesn't mean that Kerry would do the same thing.
You mustn't apply Bush's methods to everyone's methods. It doesn't work and that's not an excuse to excuse Bush's adbominable choice.
You know nothing about what Kerry would have done, and neither do I.
All we know is what Bush has done, and that is concrete, not speculative.

You can go with past presidents and what they have done over the years. They generally stick with their peeps, Isabella. Anyone who says otherwise is being difficult.
You've also avoided a mulitude of discussion that you instigated. I guess I can drop it if you're not into it anymore.

okay, I am going to stick my two cents worth in here.
As a general rule, in the past, presidents did not surround themselves exclusively with like minded people. This was a product of politics. Each party had various factions, all of whom had to be kept happy, or at least not dissatisfied. So a president would include members from all the different factions in the party to make sure they were around to support him for re-elction. Even Bush did this in his first term, including moderates Powell, Rice, O'Neil and Whitman, to name a few.
Unfortunately, this presidents personality is such that he doesn't suffer opposing views well. Thus all the moderates, save Rice, have long since departed. Which undoubtadly contributes to the fact that Bush's approval has fallen below 50% of his own party.

Good answer, GWB. The key word there is "exclusively". I wouldn't think a president would get away with being that exclusive.
As much as they can get away with? Yeah. Doesn't that make sense? I mean, in theory, it would be nice if a president enjoyed opposition but realisticly, opposition doesn't make them look good and I would agree with you that Bush's approval rating is low because he does abuse the limits in this way.
